Fire tech trailblazers set sights on Interschutz

Gamechanging technology used to tackle life-threatening blazes caused by lithium-ion batteries is going on show at a major international trade fair.

E:BAG will be making its debut at Interschutz 2026 for the fire and rescue services, civil protection and safety sectors on June 1 to 6 in Hanover, Germany.

The satchel is made of smart, fireproof fabric with nano-technology that contains and suppresses overheating or burning devices such mobile phones, tablets, power banks, laptops and vapes as well as power tools, e-scooters and e-bikes.

Technology firm Flair and global solutions provider Barnbrook Systems are taking the award-winning invention to the event as part of their portfolio of cutting-edge products and systems.

Richard Dunn and Terry Alberti from Flair will represent the firms at the show in partnership with Heathcoat Fabrics on stand D40 in hall 15.

Richard said: “Use of electronic devices and equipment with lithium-ion batteries is increasing all the time and there has been a corresponding rise in the number of fires and incidents.

“In aviation alone, there are about seven million devices in the sky globally at any one time, while the threat from faulty and poor quality vapes is a timebomb waiting to happen.

“Awareness of the issue and the E:BAG solution is growing among the major airlines we are speaking to, especially in light of recent fires on aircraft, and the increasing number of passengers taking devices on board.

“But E:BAG technology is also being applied and adapted for multiple sectors, from waste management and recycling to maritime, rail, data centre management, transportation and construction as well as for domestic use in e-scooters and e-bikes.

“We’re looking forward to valuable conversations with fellow industry experts at Interschutz where we can discuss the power E:BAG has to save lives, protective valuable assets and infrastructure, improve risk management and support compliance.”

Flair, headquartered in Reading with a base at Barnbrook Systems in Fareham, Hampshire, UK, uses high performance Polybenzimidazole (PBI) heat resistant material in the E:BAG.

The nano-technology inside is triggered at 140 degrees Celsius with powder suppressing any  fire while Barnbrook’s BlueCube© remote sensing technology tracks such metrics as heat and movement inside the E:BAG in real time to monitor the blaze.

Flair says that E:BAG is the only device of its kind to suppress a fire as well as contain it. No water or foam is required.

As well as E:BAG, E:CRATE for waste management and E:PAD for data centres, Barnbrook and Flair will showcase a range of safety solutions at Interschutz.

They include personal safety beacon and wearable trackers, fire suppression actuators and other BlueCube© powered systems.

Tiverton-based Heathcoat Fabrics is a manufacturer of innovative knitted and woven fabrics and technical textiles for multiple sectors – including lightweight, protective and strong materials with high thermal performance capability.

According to the British Safety Council, UK fire services are tackling at least three lithium-ion battery fires a day in personal electronic devices (PEDs), e-scooters and e-bikes.

Interschutz, being held at the Fair Grounds in Hannover, is expected to attract nearly 100,000 visitors and has the theme of ‘Safeguarding Tomorrow’.

Barnbrook and Flair won the Electrical Safety First 2025 Safety Innovation Award for E:BAG.

Barnbrook Systems, founded in 1978, is a 45-strong business that leads the way in global engineering solutions for the aerospace, defence, maritime, rail and commercial industries.
