Barnbrook set for turbo-charged 2025

Global engineering solutions provider Barnbrook Systems is settings its sights on a quantum jump forward in 2025 after a game changing year.

The cutting-edge firm is targeting major growth and international expansion in 2025 in key sectors including green hydrogen, aerospace, defence, fire & security, rail and maritime.

It comes after a milestone 2024 when the 50-strong business relaunched at its best ever Farnborough International Airshow partnering with Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC).

Managing director Andrew Barnett met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the world-leading event and the company’s stand drew a record number of visitors and generated more business leads than ever before.

Other highlights of 2024 included the launch of an innovative E:BAG fire suppression system with fellow Fareham firm Flair to tackle the menace of exploding lithium-ion batteries in such devices as phones, vapes, e-scooters, e-bikes and laptops.

E:BAG, which uses smart nano-technology, is being trialled at TJ Waste & Recycling in Portsmouth on a upscaled level as E:CRATE. It has also attracted interest from other sectors, including maritime and major airlines.

Collaboration has been key to Barnbrook’s giant steps forward in 2024.

It has joined forces with pioneering green hydrogen company Protium to supply its Intelligent Internet of Things (IIOT) BlueCube© remote sensing and monitoring technology.

The system – which monitors a variety of parameters, transmitting its data to enable the safe storage, use and transportation of green hydrogen systems. The BlueDot system – derived from the BlueCube© technology – will monitor for leaks and other hazards.

Barnbrook has also agreed a strategic partnership with Southampton-based UCR Group to harness the power of BlueCube© with energy-saving technologies and advanced ceramics. It has also joined forces with electrical/electronics manufacturer Electrogear of Fareham.

Barnbrook expanded its distribution base during 2024 and gained significant repeat business.

This included deals for its inflight refuelling switch for helicopters, brake controllers for trains and actuators for fire suppression systems.

Barnbrook stepped up its commitment to the STEM agenda with funding for science, engineering and mathematics themed Curiosity Boxes for primary schools in Hampshire to fire the imagination of the next generation.  In addition to its continued collaboration with CEMAST engineering college in Fareham.

Andrew Barnett, managing director, said: “This year marked the dawn of a new era at Barnbrook Systems with our corporate relaunch and repositioning as a global engineering solutions provider.

“It places us in perfect position for major growth and international expansion across Europe and the world in the year ahead, especially for the roll-out of E:BAG to help operators in multiple sectors manage the risk from lithium-ion batteries in a safe, efficient and compliant way.

“We are also involved in very progressive discussions with major players in the defence industry, including the UK Ministry of Defence, about E:BAG as well as airlines and the aerospace sector as a whole.

“The acceleration of green hydrogen as a sustainable solution for energy needs also represents a major growth opportunity, especially in road, rail and marine transport, and one which we are progressing proactively.

“Collaboration has been key to many of our achievements to date, both with external partners, and internally where our success is testament to the talent and dedication of our expanding team.

“We are aiming for unprecedented growth in 2025 through our new technologies, laying the foundations for expansion in Europe and the USA and looking forward to exciting times ahead. We are keen to explore further collaborative opportunities with like-minded partners.”

A feature about E:BAG is due to be screened on The One Show in BBC’s prime tea-time slot early in the new year.

Barnbrook was founded in 1978 by the late Tony Barnett, who died in 2022 at the age of 81. The independent firm remains family owned.
